Vintage Vamp: Grace Jones

Vintage Vamp: Grace Jones
By · January 8, 2010October 29, 2020
01
Dynamic Duo

At her 42nd birthday party in 1990, a radiant Grace Jones trades diva quips with supermodel-in-training, Naomi Campbell.

02
Nailing It

We have a feeling that “Strange” would be way into glittery, metallic nails like the ones in the Urban Decay Apocalyptic Nail Kit ($26). Colors include White Widow (white sparkle), Gunmetal (gunmetal sparkle), Apocalypse (black-purple), Grunge (metallic peacock), Meltdown (royal purple), Big Bang (sparkling hot pink), and Fbomb (true red). Love the hardcore shade names.

03
Disco Diva

At a 1978 disco convention banquet (we have no idea what this means, either), Jones sported a glam-rock slash of glittery red eyeshadow, contoured blush and berry lips.

04
Luscious Lips

Hard Candy Plexi Gloss in Velvet Rope ($5) gives lip a sparkly red, vinyl-like finish. Very Grace.

05
Party Girl

In 1985, Grace Jones showed up to Limelight’s fifth anniversary party rocking multi-layered violet eyeshadow, brick-red gloss and her signature veil. A whole lotta look, but Lady Jones pulls it off.

06
Buzz Worthy

To make sure your Grace Jones-esque flattop stays fresh between salon visits, keep the sides and edges clean with Tigi Bedhead Buzz Off Trimmer ($30).</a

07
Bang Bang

Jones adds some oomph to her signature buzz cut by adding a rolled, 1940s-era bang.

08
Bright Idea

In her heyday, Jones was all about highly-pigmented, super-bright matte eyeshadow like L’Oreal HIP High Intensity Pigment Eyeshadow in Flamboyant ($21).

09
Line Up

Glittery liquid liner is a must-have for all aspiring glam rock/New Wave/reggae/disco divas, a’la Grace Jones. Too Faced Metal Eyed Liquid Shimmer Eyeliners ($17.50) come in the sexiest shades, and they’re virtually smudge-proof.

10
Amazing Grace

Jones stopped traffic at the 1983 Grammy Awards when she hit the red carpet wearing day-glo purple eyeshadow, kiss-me crimson lips and the headpiece to end all headpieces.

11
Stick Up

Whether she was performing on stage or grrr-ing at us from the pages of a glossy magazine, Grace Jones’ deep, mahogany-brown skin always looked flawless. For a smooth complexion, swipe Iman Second to None Foundation Stick ($13.99) under eyes and over cheekbones, forehead, and the bridge of your nose. Blend with a sponge and, voila! A perfect Grace-face.

12
Macrame Me

With her feline eyeliner, perfectly sculpted cheekbones and twisted macrame head piece, Jones looks every inch the edgy, haute couture queen.

13
Angel Eyes

In the ‘80s, Grace Jones was one of Thierry Mugler’s most beloved muses. One spritz of the bad boy designer’s signature scent, Angel Eau de Parfum Spray by Thierry Mugler ($70), will take you right back to that wildly creative, anything-goes era.
