Great Beauty: How to Score Luscious Lashes

Eyelashes are everything. No, we're not being dramatic! A full, beautiful fringe instantly opens up your eyes, acting as a frame for your most expressive feature--plus, a full lash gives your face gorgeous definition. For your inspiration, we rounded up the best fringe-enhancing mascaras, treatments, and curlers, as well as our favorite eyelash-loving celebs.
By · January 12, 2010October 29, 2020
01
Princess Di

For your inspiration: the original lash goddess, Diana Ross, working a major eye moment circa 1970.

02
Delicately Divine

Alicia Keys enhances her fierce fringe with a delicately winged swoop of liquid liner.

03
Ace of Base

Lancome Cils Booster XL Super-Enhancing Mascara Base ($22, lancome-usa.com) is blended with micro-fibers that attach to the ends of lashes, creating the illusion of serious length. Apply before mascara.

04
Faux Real

Amber Rose’s row of gorgeous faux lashes gives her a luxurious, wide-eyed look.

05
Drama Queen

LaLa Vasquez adds a dose of drama to her look by adding full strips of faux lashes.

06
Lash Love

False eyelashes get a “drag queen” bad rap, but the truth is, many of the newer ones are subtle enough to wear everyday (try Revlon Fantasy Lengths Glue On Eyelashes, $4). To apply, first squeeze out some invisible lash glue onto the back of your hand. Carefully pick up the lashes and dip the base over the glue. Wait a couple of seconds for the glue to become tacky, and then gently press the base of the false lashes as close to your lashline as possible. After letting them dry for a couple minutes, marry the faux lashes to your real ones by curling with an eyelash curler.

07
Sexy Spikes

Eva Marcille enhances her subtly bronzed look with spiky, individual faux lashes.

08
Twice as Nice

Guerlain Le 2 Brush Mascara ($35, saksfifthavenue.com) comes with two brushes: a plush one that lengthens lashes, and a tiny brush that catches the little hairs on the bottom lid.

09
Lash Blast

Leona Lewis paired her out-to-there lashes with winged eyeliner and bold crimson lips — so dazzling!

10
Curly Cue

For the most eye-popping lash look, you absolutely must curl before applying mascara (we like Tweezerman ProCurl Eyelash Curler, $20, sephora.com).

11
Shimmer and Shine

Keri Hilson rocked a sexy, shimmer-flecked makeup punctuated with super-elongated, curled lashes.

12
Batting a Thousand

Tyra Banks swept all her hair up into an intricate topknot — all the better to put her flirty, super-battable lashes on display.

13
Heat Wave

To rock a super-glamorous eye look, try a heated curler like Panasonic Heated Eyelash Curler w/Comb ($15, qvc.com). Adding heat helps set your lashes all day long.

14
Pretty Girl

Janell Monae kept her eyebrows natural and added some feather individual lashes to her top lids for a sweetly pretty look.

15
Signature Style

We’re loving Selita Ebanks’ beauty trademark: those out-to-there, high-drama false lashes.

16
Blast Off

One of the most popular mascara launches in the last decade, Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara ($7.79, drugstore.com)amplifies lashes with its oversized brush and volumizing formula.

17
Fringe Benefits

For perfectly curled lashes like Rihanna’s, curl lashes before applying mascara. To do, simply place the opening at the base of your lashes, press down for a couple of seconds, and then release.

18
The Bigger, The Better

Set against her bronze shadow and carefully arched brown, Ashanti’s pumped-up lashes pop like crazy!

19
Fringe Fantasy

Channel your inner diva with these statement-making, wildly fabulous Shu Uemura Black Velvet Feather Lashes ($25, shuuemura-usa.com). The hairs are woven with feathers!

20
Silver Belle

Letoya Luckett gets a luminous glow by adding a pale, silvery shadow to the inner corners of her eyes — topping it off, of course, with spiky individual lashes.

21
Au Natural

When she’s not on stage, Janet Jackson goes for a subtly sexy, natural-looking row of faux eyelashes.

22
Battable Beauty

Why not splurge on eyelash extensions? Available at most reputable salons for around $200, the process involves a spa technician gluing individual hairs to each of your lashes.

23
Long Lash

Peter Thomas Roth Lashes to Die For Nighttime Conditioning Treatment ($125, sephora.com) is the industry standard for amplifying lash hairs. Simply massage into your lashline every night before bed.

24
The Shining

At the House of Hype Music Awards, Kelly Rowland rocked shiny, coffee brown lipgloss and lush faux lashes.

25
Exotic City

Ciara’s expertly curled false lashes help enhance her exotic, almond-shaped eyes.
