You could hear her before you saw her. At 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 2, in New Orleans’ Ernest N. Memorial Convention Center, a pint sized MC Lyte parted a crowd of fans waiting at the Coke Happiness Center to hear the old school hip hop queen spit her rhymes. Lyte kept the crowd rocking to hits like “Cha Cha Cha” and encouraged everyone to take care of their health. After a lesson in the history of hip hop, Lyte ended her set with “Rough Neck.” But she joked that now she’s looking for a “reformed rough neck.”
