Everybody makes a beauty mistake once in a while. Here are the top beauty mishaps and tips on quick fixes.
Step away from the magnifying mirror and back away from the tweezers. Overplucking is worse than overgrown brows, but we’ve all been there. Pick up a brow pencil in a color that matches your natural brow (please, ladies, if you dye your hair blonde, chances are a midnight-black pencil might scream Halloween!). We love Anastasia’s Perfect Brow Pencil, $22, at Sephora.com. Draw tiny strokes in the same direction as your brow. Unfortunately, you’ll have to do this every day until your brows grow back.
Matching your vampy lipstick to an equally dark pencil is a nightmare waiting to happen. Of course, it’ll look great for an hour or two. But trust us, once that lipstick wears off you’re going to look ridiculous. Instead of lining so dark, pick a lip liner that matches your lips. We love MAC Lip Pencil, $13, at Maccosmetics.com. Wear the lip-matching pencil with any lipstick shade. It’ll give your lipstick staying power and will always fade gracefully.
Smokey eyes and red lips are too difficult to do. Pick one feature to emphasize, but don’t do both. If you’re going for a dramatic eye, try a sheer, lip gloss to offset the boldness of those peepers. We love Cover Girl Wet Slicks, about $5, at Drugstore.com.
Shimmer and glimmer looks incredible on dark skin, but less is always more. Metallic is an incredible highlighter, and when used sparingly it really does the trick. Go ahead and add metallic to your lid, but stay away from the cheeks. Instead, try dabbing a shimmer in the corner of your eye, but forgo any other shine. Try Benefit High Beam, $24, at Benefitcosmetics.com.
After a long day at work, sometimes all you want to do is collapse on the couch. Please don’t fall asleep there. It’s so important to take off your makeup and clean your skin. Make it easy on yourself by using a simple cleansing cloth. Try Pond’s Clean Sweep Cleansing & Make-up Removing Towelettes, about $6, at Drugstore.com.
