Balmain’s Pre-Fall 2017 Collection Pays Homage To Prince And Other Music Icons
Creative director Olivier Rousteing and the #BalmainArmy slay yet another collection.
Olivier Rousteing was just 25 when he took over the reins at Balmain, and now the 31-year-old Black creative director has turned the French label into a household name. From using Kim and Kanye West in the Spring/Summer 2015 ad campaign to doing a collaboration with H&M, Rousteing has taken Balmain to a level that many doubted he would.
A few days ago, Balmain showed its Pre-Fall 2017 collection, along with its new accessories collection, which Rousteing said was influenced by Prince along with other musical greats David Bowie and George Michael. Rousteing told WWD that he wanted to “talk to my generation….It was music that inspired me to create fashion.”

The festival-themed collection features many of Balmain’s embellished signature blazers and fitted dresses, along with a few unconventional looks for the label like ponchos, knits and palazzo pants.
