“My EIC Life” is a dose of marvelous musings straight from ESSENCE’s editor-in-chief, Vanessa K. De Luca. It’s your glimpse into her oh-so-fabulous life, which is filled with amazing people, awesome must-haves and endless inspiration.
October Surprise: It’s hard to describe what it feels like to be in the room with two people whom you admire so much for their grace and wisdom, so I’ll just share this behind-the-scenes video from our October cover shoot with @POTUS and @FLOTUS, and a photo of the Essence editors and photography team that made it all happen. Oh how we will miss them when they’re gone (*cry emoji*).
Front Row: New York Fashion Week (aka #NYFW) took the city by storm this past week with a peek at what we’ll all be wearing come next spring. Just as eyecatching was the celeb-watching from the front row. Here’s a few of the ladies I ran into: (photos from my instagram of Venus Williams, The Rio Track Olympians, me and Kelly Rowland at Street Style, plus Simone Biles.

Power of the Sister Vote: I traveled down to DC for opening day of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Leadership Conference. First stop: moderating a panel with the Black Women’s Roundtable on our joint poll about the presidential election and the power of the Black women’s vote in 2016. I then switched gears, serving as a panelist with Angela Rye, Erica Ash and Daphne Valerius on the images of Black women and girls in media. Being surrounded by so much Black excellence was a reminder to me that we have more power than we even realize, as NYC First Lady Chirlaine McCray reminded us in her keynote address after the media panel. We just have to own it! You can read the results of our poll in the November issue of Essence.
