Black Panther has arrived and it’s breaking box office goals.
The film made an incredible $218 million over the President’s Day weekend, much more than the $120-$150 million originally predicted.
And, despite the best efforts of racist trolls and one crotchety reviewer, the film shows no signs of slowing down. Here’s a breakdown of all the records Black Panther broke during its opening weekend.

1. Biggest February Debut Ever
Black Panther has the biggest February debut in history, beating Marvel’s Deadpool, which debuted in February 2016 with $132 million domestically.
2. It’s The Fifth Film To Debut With Over $200 Million
The film’s $218 million opening makes it the fifth biggest film debut along with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Jurassic World, and The Avengers.
3. It’s The Second Biggest Opening In The Marvel Comic Universe.
Black Panther‘s $201 million opening, excluding President’s Day, makes it MCU’s second biggest opening film behind The Avengers.
4. The film had the second best Sunday opening in history.
While the film had the largest Thursday night preview gross for a February opener and the second largest in Marvel history, it also had the second biggest Sunday opening in history following 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
5. Black Panther Is The Biggest Global Debut Ever For A Predominantly Black Cast
BuzzFeed reports that the only film to come close was 2015’s Straight Outta Compton.
6. The Film Is The Biggest Domestic Opening In History For A Black Director
Ryan Coogler definitely killed it and the box office number don’t lie. And, if Black Panther’s domination continues Coogler could take over the world and beat F. Gary Gray’s Fate of the Furious, which earned more than $1.1 billion worldwide.
