Mothers around the world are sending words of encouragement to Serena Williams after the tennis champ shared her dismay at missing her daughter’s first steps.
Serena Williams said on Saturday that she missed seeing her 10-month-old daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. take her first steps while she was practicing for Wimbledon.
“She took her first steps… I was training and missed it. I cried,” she tweeted.
She took her first steps... I was training and missed it. I cried.
After giving birth to her first daughter last September, Williams’ climb back to the top has been tough. The tennis champ won her first match back on the court in March at Indian Wells but was sent home by her sister, Venus. Later that month, Williams suffered a first-round defeat at the Miami Open, however, she’s been putting in work to reclaim her crown with plans to win this year’s Wimbledon.
Other women tweeted their support of Williams missing her daughter’s first steps and shared their own stories.
You didn't miss it, mommy. You facilitated it. Your child still lives right there. Make those happy tears & I mean it.
1. The comments here are amazing. 2. I can’t tell you how many times I was babysitting a kid, saw them do something for the first time, and KEPT MY MOUTH SHUT. Then waited for Mom to mention their “first” step next time I came over. Lol https://t.co/t52pkmFKz8

she is practicing so you can see the real ones. ❤️
I missed a bunch of firsts while I was at work. I hear ya, mama. It’s not easy. But our girls see us out there grinding + living our dreams and that’s got to mean something. Good luck in London - my daughter and I are both rooting for you! ❤️
