9 New York Fashion Week Makeup Trends To Try Right Now
With just a few days until fall it’s time to start reconsidering our skincare, hair, and makeup routines. What’s good for the hot weather months isn’t always a good look for the cooler days of fall and cold days of winter. Fortunately with New York Fashion Week, which just ended a week ago, we got new hair and makeup trends that we don’t have to wait until spring 2020 to execute.
We saw the great, the bad, and the bizarre. But there were some beauty teams that truly put in the work when it came to creating colored cosmetics looks that really pop on melanin rich skin. Check out nine of our favorite makeup trends that we intend to try as the new season approaches.
Rainbow Metallic Eye Makeup
The rainbow metallic eye makeup at Christian Siriano was a melanin girl's dream. This is a trend that you can try with so many different colors and foils. It brings the euphoric carnival vibes all year long.
Glossy Bright Red Lipstick
Red lips are not new. Glossy lips have also long been a thing. But when it comes to reds, mattes have sort of taken over as the Black girl's go-to. This season try a fire engine red in a finish so glossy that it looks like you'll drip swag all over the place, like the models at Sies Marjan.
Two-Tone Winged Eye Makeup
As seen at Chromat and Oscar De La Renta, two-toned liner was par for the course. And of course, liner had to be dramatically winged out onto the face to make a bold statement. In rich greens, blues, and more, this trend is a head-turner.
Bold Solo Lip Liner
The beauty team at Christopher John Rogers doubled down on the makeup, adding both a prominent cheekbone and a boldly lined lip to their roster. The lips were finished sans shading on the inside, allowing the bright liner to pop against darker lips.
Geometric Eye Makeup
Whether it's liner done with the precision of an architectural drawing, or shadow applied in shapes around the eye, geometric eye makeup is inspiring. It showcases the skills of the makeup artist and adds a fun element to the look, like on the Jeremy Scott runway.
Remember when we were told as little Black girls that we shouldn't wear blue eyeshadow and other blue makeup? Well, things have dramatically changed. And the beauty teams for Chromat and Pyer Moss (above), Laquan Smith and other designers got the memo that blue looks amazing on our lids, lips, and fingertips.
When Cardi B released her "Press" video we predicted that colored eyebrows would be a thing. Based on the makeup at Maki Oh (above) and Studio 189, our prediction was on target. And it's a really pretty trend whether you choose to go over the top with a bright color like Cardi, or keep it low key with muted or softer hues.
Bright Brow And Cheek Bone Combo
A color explosion in red, orange, blue, or purple is always a standout when it comes to a beauty look. This season, going for a bright brow and cheekbone combo is in line with a trend we saw on the runways of Pyer Moss (above), Maki Oh, and more. It's very runway and avant garde, so choose your colors carefully when wearing off the catwalk.
Matching Makeup And Clothing Prints
With the rise of beauty influencers who paint intricate pictures with their colored cosmetics, we're seeing more creative ways to do makeup. This season, it's all about matching your makeup with your clothing, but not just the colors. At Mansur Gavriel we saw sweaters with bright prints and eyelids to match.
