A voice at the 2017 Emmys had everyone asking, “Who is the announcer?” Comedian and actor Jermaine Fowler’s hilarious off-the-cuff commentary while announcing set a different tone at the Emmys.
Fowler kept the audience hype with his engaging delivery and high energy. Here’s what you should know about the 29-year-old comedian.
1. He’s an actor.
Fowler is the star and executive producer of Superior Donuts, a sitcom on CBS. His other acting credits include The Eric Andre Show, Friends With People and HBO’s Crashing.
2. He’s from Washington D.C.
Fowler was born in the nation’s capitol and raised in Hyattsville, Maryland. He relocated to New York City at the age of 20 to pursue comedy and acting.
3. He’s appeared on Lip Sync Battle.
The comedian took to the stage of the LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen co-hosted Spike TV series to channel Kanye West in a battle against supermodel Ashley Graham. Performing “Flashing Lights,” Fowler put on a show.
4. He received a glowing endorsement from CBS Entertainment EVP Jack Sussman as the announcer.
“What most awards show do is have the announcer locked in a closet reading from a script on cue,” Sussman told Deadline of Fowler. “What we will do is have Jermaine be an active part of the show. He will be connected with what’s happened on the telecast and what happens next. What we want to do is get a peek behind the curtain in a fun, engaging way.”
5. He’s a father.
Jermaine is the proud dad of a daughter, Thebe Orion Fowler.
