In an effort to do more than just sit around and talk about the issues, Issa Rae started a scholarship fund for Alton Sterling's five children via GoFundMe and raised more than $200,000 in nine hours.
Not wanting to feel helpless in the wake of Sterling’s fatal shooting, Rae announced on Twitter that she would be taking action. “Here it is,” she tweeted. “Donate to the #AltonSterling Family Scholarship Fund.”
The #AltonSterlingFamily Scholarship page implores, “If you feel helpless, but want to play a small part in easing the burden of #AltonSterling’s family, consider donating to this scholarship fund for his 15-year old son (and his other kids). All funds raised will go to Alton Sterling’s family.”
The page has surpassed its goal of $200,000 and has currently raised $285,455 in funds.
