The media mogul joins a power-packed list of speakers for the 22nd annual Festival this weekend in New Orleans.
The news just keeps getting bigger for the 2016 ESSENCE Festival: Oprah will be in the house!
One of the most famous Black women in the world will join the festivities at the nation’s largest gathering of African-American women, which kicks off today in New Orleans and runs through Sunday. This will mark the very first time that Oprah Winfrey will appear at the Festival, so this is history in the making. Trust us: This is not to be missed on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
Winfrey will join an impressive list of speakers, including T.D. Jakes, Ava DuVernay, Rev. Al Sharpton, Misty Copeland and Tyra Banks. Also taking the ESSENCE Empowerment Experience stage will be Phaedra Parks, Cookie Johnson, actress Patina Miller and the cast of The Real, among others.
Meanwhile, musical headliners of a star-studded lineup include Maxwell (Friday), Mariah Carey (Saturday) and Kendrick Lamar (Sunday). In addition, a special Prince tribute will kick off the closing night on Sunday.
As if that weren’t enough on Sunday, Puff Daddy & the Family—including Faith Evans, Mase, French Montana and 112—will rock the Superdome with an epic ESSENCE Fest finale. So you know where you’ll want to be this weekend for some serious July 4th fireworks!
