Vanessa did a lot of traveling this week! Here's what went down...
What I Wore to the #NerdProm: I decided to go for comfort—and pockets--last Saturday when I attended the White House Correspondents' Dinner. See the total getup from my Instagram here. By the time I made it to the MSNBC after-party, I had to come out of the heels though. Luckily someone left a large supply of Old Navy flip flops in the ladies room—#genius!
Inspired By…That line from Beyonce’s song, “winners don’t quit on themselves” has been my mantra for years. I actually read something similar in a comic book when I was a kid—A winner never quits; a quitter never wins. It’s stuck with me ever since.
Too Cute: I couldn’t resist taking a photo with the lovely Ms. Brown! Both my kids’ names start with the letter "M" and I often call them my M&Ms.
The Art Geek In Me: I love visual eye candy, like the current exhibit I checked out at the Hotel 21C in Bentonville, AK. The exhibit entitled "Pop Stars! Popular Culture in Contemporary Art," excites as much as it provokes. Some of my faves: a piece juxtaposing Oprah Winfrey and Condoleeza Rice; a trench coat ode to the art of the street hustle; a Michael Jackson record cover etched with the lyrics from 36 of his songs (talk about patience!); and a wall sculpture that transforms vinyl into a mixed media masterpiece.
A little #BlackGirlMagic: Caught up with the fabulous A’Lelia Bundles, great-great-granddaughter of Madame C.J. Walker, at the recent Colour100 reception in Weashington D.C. which honored women of color in media. So excited about her just-launched beauty line named in Walker’s honor. ESSENCE selected the haircare line as “One To Watch” in our annual Best of Black Beauty Awards.
Triple threat: Inside my Bentonville Film Festival swag bag I scored these tiny treasures by Dove, St.Ives and Jergens, which left my skin super soft and smelling gorgeous! Hope they make their way into an ESSENCE BeautyBox someday soon (hint, hint:)
