The Talk co-host said that she regretted nothing about her relationship with her husband of 23 years and that she would always love him.
Going through a divorce is never easy, but it’s even harder when your life is in the spotlight.
Just ask Aisha Tyler.
After word got out that The Talk co-host was splitting from Jeff Tietjens, her husband of 23 years, Tyler chose to spend a portion of yesterday’s show shutting down rumors and speculations about her divorce.
"I’m sure you can imagine it’s pretty frustrating to have people talking about your private life who don’t know anything about it and speculating and, you know, saying lots of crazy stuff,” she said.
Tyler explained that she and her husband split a year ago, but they were hoping to work out their differences. However, after one year of discussions, the couple decided to file for divorce. Because he’s not in show business, she said that she was hoping to keep their divorce proceedings out of the limelight.
“I really wanted to protect him because he’s not in this business and he didn’t choose this life; I chose this life,” she said. “And it’s very unfair to drag somebody into this world who doesn’t want any part of it. The only reason they’re part of it is because they’ve fallen in love with someone in this business.”
Tyler had nothing but praise to sing for Tietjens, who she has known since high school. She said that she doesn’t view the relationship as a failure and vowed to always love him.
“I was with this extraordinary person,” she said. “I had this extraordinary love affair for 25 years of my life. And that’s how I feel. I think we did it exactly right…That’s why I’m going to say about the relationship, and the rest of it is none of your damn business!”
