Tamara Hunter will officially step into her newly-created position as Vice President of Casting for Sony Pictures Entertainment, supporting all of SPE’s labels and overseeing theatrical casting strategy.

Hunter’s background is a stunner. She joins the SPE Motion Picture Group team from a similar role at Twentieth Century Fox, where she oversaw theatrical casting strategy across the studio’s various labels. While at Fox Hunter’s project slate included Hidden Figures, a forthcoming adaptation of a Margot Lee Shetterly novel about a group of African-American mathematicians who worked with NASA; the superhero sequel X-Men: Apocalypse, and Wilson, a comedy about a divorced man starring Woody Harrelson.

Hunter’s contribution in the independent casting world is equally impressive and her credits include The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the upcoming The Jungle Book starring Lupita Nyong’o and Idris Elba.

Hunter is “thrilled” to join the team at Sony. “I’ve got a fresh point of view that I'm excited and eager to share through this amazing opportunity,” she told ESSENCE. “It is important to me to take the current social momentum we are experiencing now, and push further and be bolder with casting strategy and decisions in filmmaking - both in terms of diversity and having a strong global perspective.”

Congrats, Tamara!
