The retired neurosurgeon officially supports his former opponent.

After suspending his 2016 race for the White House last week, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson has officially endorsed Donald Trump for President, CNN reports. 

Carson expressed his full support for his former opponent in a press conference on Friday morning.

"I want to the voice of the people to be heard," Carson said. "I've come to know Donald Trump over the last few years. He's actually a very intelligent man who deeply about America."

Carson cited Trump as being a wonderful conversationalist and promised that for the remainder of the campaign season, that would be the candidate voters would begin to see.

"There's two different Donald Trumps," he continued. "There's the one you see on the stage and there's the one that's very cerebral, sits there and considers things very carefully."

While the two were notoriously at odds over the course of the campaign season, Carson says he and Trump have "buried the hatchet" in order to focus on the greater good for the country.
