Last year, Monica (MoKnowsHair) decided to partner with Aveda to become an Aveda Ambassador and an official hair stylist. As an ambassador, Monica decided to be trained by some of the best color technicians and hairstylists in the industry. Monica decided to also learn about the newest techniques and say abreast of the latest trends.

The entire process isn’t easy—the program consists of 1,000 hours (approximately 30 weeks) in a salon-like environment where students are required to master hair cutting and styling, coloring and chemically restructuring. Sounds tough, but it’s worth it! Upon completion this Spring, Monica will be ready to pass the New York Cosmetology Licensing Exam and begin her career as an official hairstylist.

Here, we follow Monica as she gives a one-length, blunt haircut at the Aveda Institute on hair model, Kennedy.
