The actress and playwright says the Oscar winning star of Eclipsed is a blessing to those around her.
Lupita Nyong'o has an electrifying and humble star power that just can't be denied.
Her Academy Award winning performance in 12 Years a Slave was just the beginning of her acting excellence. Now, the Kenyan beauty is gearing up to make her official Broadway debut in the play Eclipsed.
Gurira spoke highly of Nyong'o, saying, "she pursues the story and the artistic community above all else and allows other people to shine and be blessed right along side her."
Gurira and Eclipsed producer Alia Jones-Harvey initially had the Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress in mind for a different production, but Nyong'o was adamant that this was a project she was passionate about.
The Walking Dead star Gurira told ESSENCE that Nyong'o's vision of clarity and certainty is a "testament to her character and her roundedness as an artist."
Eclipsed opens on Sunday, March 6 and runs through June 19.
