"Do what's right for you," says the actress.
As part of Neutrogena's "See What's Possible" campaign, which inspires women to chase their dreams, Kerry Washington sat down with Teen Vogue to give advice to her 18-year-old self.
Her advice covers everything from surrounding yourself with the right people, to making sure the dreams you follow are yours, and to stop comparing yourself to others.
You can't compare your insides with somebody else's outsides because you never know what's going on with somebody else, really."
She talks about the stress of leaving high school and going to college and how becoming a parent made her appreciate her own.
"I really now understand what it means to parent and not a day goes by that I don't think about how blessed I am to have been born to the parents I was born to."
This advice isn't just for 18-year-old Kerry, but for young girls and women everywhere who might be doubting themselves and their dreams.
