Black-ish star Yara Shahidi has quickly become one the coolest teens and role models in Hollywood, an honor she definitely deserves.

The 16-year-old recently talked to The Fader about a myriad of things that will undoubtedly make more and more people fall in love with her.

Shahidi spoke about the roles she chooses and what she hopes to achieve as an actress: "My goal in life is to contribute in some way," she said. "I have been given the support of so many people and followers and fans—it's so amazing. It's a part of my duty as an actress to choose roles that I am proud of or evoke a certain response or mean something."

The actress revealed that she also has her mother to thank for helping her find her inner magic, providing her with the opportunity to go to schools that gave her the chance to find writers like James Baldwin, and always being open about her struggles and success.

Shahidi also gave some very good advice to teenage girls growing up, trying to figure who they are and what they want out of life: "Even though we should aspire to achieve what we want to do, it’s OK to not be perfect right now and to not be perfect ever."
