The first trailer for the Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead has arrived, and Don Cheadle is mesmerizing as the legendary jazz musician.

"Don't call it jazz, man, that's some made up word," Cheadle says in a raspy whisper to emulate the famed artist. "It's social music."

Set to hit theaters April 1, the movie tells the ups and downs of Davis's career, and the trailer doesn't shy away from showing the bold and brassy nature that made the trumpeter revered.

Cheadle not only stars as Davis, but he also co-wrote the project and makes his directorial debut.
