The Black Twitterverse may be saying that the #OscarsSoWhite, but Whoopi Goldberg is singing a different tune.
This week on The View, Goldberg tackled the Oscars’ lack of diversity head-on, but she said that the awards are not discriminatory, reports the Huffington Post.
“I won once,” she said. “So it can’t be racist. You need directors and producers who will say, ‘Hey, what about so-and-so?’ They need to be aware that the picture is not complete.”
The co-host went on to chide celebs like Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee for boycotting the ceremony. Their protests, she said, are severely misguided.
“You wanna boycott something?” she asked. “Don’t go see the movies that don’t have your representation. That’s the boycott you want. To me, we have this conversation every year. It pisses me off.”
What do you think of Whoopi’s comments? Does she have a point, or is she completely missing the mark?
