“It’s always been and still is a male-dominated field, but I just feel like is room [for more women], so when I do hear someone come out, I’m like, ‘Come on girl! I’m rooting for you, let’s do this,'” said Pepa.
While they applaud Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea for finding success as female rappers, they noted that the talent available now a days is pale in comparison to the days when MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott, Eve, Lauryn Hill, Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown, Yo Yo, and Trina were rocking the mic.
“It’s baffling to us as well,” Salt said. “Maybe we have to get together, the ladies, and go and find some girls and put them out there.”
