Nina Simone's 1978 cover of Randy Newman's "Baltimore" is still celebrated as one of the most beautiful pieces of social commentary. Fast forward 37 years and the song, and conditions in Baltimore, still apply.

ESSENCE Festival alum Jazmine Sullivan covers the sublime protest song for the Netflix documentary What Happened, Miss Simone (out June 26). Sullivan’s cover will be featured in a tribute album accompanying the documentary. Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill, Simone's daughter Lisa, and Common will also be featured. Listen in!
