The widowed father of four tells People how he manages raising his quadruplets after his wife's tragic death.
Even after a tragedy, life goes on.
Carlos Morales and his wife Erica thought their dreams had come true when they found out she was pregnant with four babies. Erica's pregnancy and C-section went smoothly. Everything seemed fine. Then, hours after giving birth, Erica, 36, went into hypovolemic shock, a condition involving massive blood loss. She died at 1:20 am and the best day became the worst day of Carlos' life.
"In life, things happen for reasons but sometimes we want to know the answer to 'Why?'" Carlos exclusively told People. "'Why did this happen to me?' That's the question I'm still asking to this day."
Now, with the help of Erica's mother, family and friends, Carlos, 29, is raising all four of his newborn babies without his wife by his side. But Carlos remains hopeful and he's determined to be a good father to his four young children.
"Now, [I] have to be strong for the babies," he said. "These babies don't know yet what blessings they have given me. They have given me four reasons to live."
