Happy Wednesday! Here’s what we’re talking about this Christmas Eve:
In continuing the discussion sparked by the Dark Girls documentary, OWN will be airing Light Girls next month. The film will offer an alternative view of colorism’s impact and tell the “untold stories of lighter-skinned women around the globe.” It will feature testimony and anecdotes from Kym Whitley, Raven-Symoné, Diahann Carrol, and more. Light Girls airs January 19 on OWN. Watch a clip below. [Shadow and Act]
Big Sean posted a touching tribute to his grandmother on Instagram who, he revealed, passed away a couple of days ago. "I haven’t said anything to anyone because honestly I feel like she’s still here,” he wrote under a picture of his grandmother in a military uniform. The rapper describes her as “a true hero” and shared that she was one of the first Black female captains in World War II before going on to earn Master's degrees and becoming a teacher. Our condolences to Big Sean and his family. [Instagram]
Matthew Knowles is reportedly selling off his daughters’ personal items for personal profit. According to TMZ, Knowles is holding a garage sale where interested buyers can purchase life-size posters of Beyoncé, Kelly, and Michelle, and pairs of House of Dereon jeans for as much at $200. [TMZ]
The Columbus Short scandal isn’t ending anytime soon. Short will stand trial for felony battery charges. In March he was accused of fighting in a Los Angeles bar and fracturing a man’s eye socket. Tuesday, a judge ruled there was enough evidence against him to proceed to trial, which is scheduled for January 6. [Hello Beautiful]
Christmas came early for some youngsters thanks to Jeezy. The rapper bought out an entire movie theater in Atlanta for a free screening of the movie Annie. Reports say that Jeezy was even handing out the popcorn himself. What a wonderful Christmas gift! [Jezebel]
