Plus, Tracy Morgan may never perform again, Jenifer Lewis joins Black-ish, Earth, Wind & Fire will release first holiday album and Drake jokes about his relationship with Rihanna.
Here's what we're talking about over our black coffee (two sugars):
ABC's How To Get Away With Murder continues to be a ratings success. The Shonda Rhimes drama had the biggest DVR viewership increase in history, adding six million more playbacks after winning 14 million during it's primetime peremiere on Thursday. In total, Viola Davis and her young cast brought in 20.3 million viewers and earned a 5.8 rating. Although it comes towards the end of "Shonda Thursday," HTGAW made up for the lost live viewers by making big with the DVR junkies. Way to go, Viola! [HollywoodReporter]
Speaking of ratings success, actress Jenifer Lewis will be joining the cast of Black-ish as Dre's (Anthony Anderson) mother. Lewis character is an overbearing mother who "smothers pork chops with gravy, Dre with love, and would like to flat out smother [Dre's wife] Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross), who feels the same way about her." She will appear later in the season. This should make for an interesting plot twist. [TVLine]
The severity of Tracy Morgan's injuries resulting for the six-car accident back in June have left with comedian with little hope for any more live performances. Morgan's lawyer, Benedict Morelli, said that it's unclear when, or if, Morgan will perform on stage again. "The jury's still out," said Morelli. "The doctor's don't know the answer. I don't know the answer." Morgan is still going through intensive therapy, including speech, cognitive and physical therapies. [MTV]
While performing on his Drave vs. Lil Wayne tour, in Texas, Drake made yet another comment about his love triangle with Rihanna and Chris Brown. After Lil Wayne rapped his verse in "Loyal," Drake decided to bust out some dance moves to show everyone that he can dance just like Brown. "Maybe I should've brought that s**t out earlier," said Drake. "Maybe I could've made that s**t work with Rihanna a little better." [EOnline]
Earth, Wind & Fire will be releasing their first ever holiday album this month. Appropriately titled Holiday, the 13-track set will include classics like "Winter Wonderland," "Joy to the World," and "Jingle Bell Rock," as well as EWF originals. Holiday will be released October 21, but is available not for pre-order on Amazon. [Billboard]
In total Pharrell style, the debut of his new video for "IT Girl" is something to talk about. Instead of doing a regular music video with video girls and such, Pharrell released a video complete with anime visuals. Check it out and let us know what you think:
