How did you meet your man?
A friend and I went out to a very popular nightclub in Scottsdale, Arizona, and he asked me to dance while we were there. He asked me to join him back at his table for drinks and we found out we went to the same college. He then asked me for my number and we became good friends.
What was your past dating life like?
I never had any rough break-ups or a problem meeting quality men. I was actually in a relationship at the time I met my fiancé, which is why we remained friends for a while in the beginning months.
When did you first meet his friends and family?
I met his family after about eight months of dating. We went to Trinidad and Tobago where he is originally from. His family was great and very open to me. I knew a lot of his friends from our college, Tuskegee University. We were there for two years together but we just never met each other.
Describe your most romatic date ever.
For our first trip back to Tuskegee University as a couple, we went to this huge alumnae party all dressed up thinking we were the stuff. He just held me tight and we danced the night away. It was such a great feeling!
At what moment did you know he was 'The One' for you?
In 2009, about six months after we had been dating, I got extremely sick and was in the hospital for two weeks. He was there every day with me for the full two weeks and never left my side. He cared for me the entire time. My grandmother told me that he was going to be my husband because of that, and that’s when I knew.
What's the sweetest thing he has ever done for you?
When I moved to California for work he got a clear jar full of over 80 post-its and hand wrote 80 different things that he loved about me on them. He told me it would be my “heart medicine” while I was away and that I could only take one every two days and I had to call him for refills. It was so sweet and simple. It made me cry!
How did he pop the question?
It was after a morning hike on Griffith Mountain in Los Angeles. When we got to the top of the mountain I asked a lady to take a photo of us. He got down on one knee and pulled out this amazing diamond ring and asked me if I would spend the rest of my life with him. I began to laugh and cry, and then he said, “Will you marry me?” I said, "YES!"
