Her Leading Man: Jelani McLean, 28, Senior Analytics Consultant
The Big Day: August 2, 2014
Hometown: Chicago, IL
Where did you meet your man?
Jelani and I both went to college in Tallahassee, FL. I went to FAMU and he went to FSU. I met him during my second freshman semester at Purple Passion, a party his fraternity was throwing during the holiday weekend. (Yes, I met my man at a frat party!)
Were you looking for love at the time?
I was not. I was focused on being a freshman, which was probably the only reason why I was even at that party.
What was your first impression of him?
I thought he looked like Taye Diggs! Plus, he had an amazing smile.
Did you play hard to get?
I played hard to get for the first four hours of knowing Jelani. When he came up to speak to me at the party, I did not want to talk to him because I was with my girlfriends. In order to get rid of him, I promised I’d dance with him before the night was over. At some point in the night “Lean With It” by the Franchise Boyz came on and we danced. I was impressed by his Pool Palace (a popular dance back then) so I gave him my number. Well, That is embarrassing; our first dance was to snap music.
Describe your most romantic date ever.
Our most romantic date was our second official Valentine’s Day. He had his apartment decorated with flowers and candles and he cooked a full meal. Everyone that really knows Jelani knows that a full meal to him is chicken drumsticks and lemonade. (Laughs!)
Best vacation ever (together)?
We took a road trip to New Orleans for my 22nd birthday. We crashed at a friends apartment, played around in the French Quarter, and ate really good food. We love New Orleans!
How did he pop the question?
He was the last person to stand and give a toast at my graduation dinner. I can only remember him asking me to stand and then seeing a ring. Sorry babe, I completely stopped listening to you. I bet you were saying something really sweet!
