Unfortunately, due to weather affecting our special guest’s travel, ESSENCE’s Susan L. Taylor Google+ Hangout has been canceled. Our dedication to helping stop gun violence, however, continues — pick up the July 2013 issue for the latest in our “Guns Down” series.
On Monday, June 10, at 7 p.m. ET, join ESSENCE and Susan L. Taylor for a very special Google+ Hangout to discuss the numerous ways we can save our at-risk youth from violence.
Taylor, the editor emerita of ESSENCE, is also the CEO of National Cares Mentoring Movement. Her program stresses the importance of mentoring in a child’s life.
“Study after study shows that mentoring can bring about major transformations even in the most challenged young person’s life,” says Taylor in the July issue of ESSENCE. “Children develop higher self-esteem and better relationships with their peers, parents, teachers; risky behaviors decrease and academic perormances increase. All it takes is one hour a week to make a difference. CARES Mentoring can connect you to opportunities to do one-to-one mentoring, group mentoring, faith-based mentoring. There are children in group homes and foster care who need our attention.”
Join us this coming Monday at 7 p.m. for this special “Guns Down” event.
