Televangelist and recording artist Dr. Juanita Bynum, 54, who has made controversial headlines in the past, was arrested and held in Dallas on Thursday night in connection with a civil case against her, reports the Dallas Morning News.

Bynum had been en route to minister at a hotel in Dallas but was taken into custody on a warrant for failure to appear for a hearing over $140,000 she was ordered to pay ALW Entertainment in 2007.

The civil case was filed by promoter Al Wash, who says Bynum defaulted on a paid commitment to perform in a play. Bynum was released from custody on Friday, after appearing in court and answering questions in the case.
