Lots of people are going the vegetarian or vegan route this holiday. Would you join them?
This year, the number of Americans who consumed meat is 12.2 percent lower than in 2007, according to a Department of Agriculture report. Stars like Venus Williams, India.Arie and Alicia Keys are among the vegetarian and vegan movement's poster children, and according to a recent Gallup poll, five percent of Americans consider themselves vegetarians, and two percent are vegan.
And yet, as Thanksgiving approaches, we're reminded that the real star of the day is still the turkey (that's not to say your mother's sweet potato pie or banana pudding isn't a worthy contender). Luckily, the herbivores of the world have plenty of tasty options to compete with turkey on Thanksgiving — think Tofurkey, or check out Chef Ayinde's recipe suggestions.
Would you ever consider joining the meatless movement?
