Gabrielle Union laced up her racing shoes to complete the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Washington, D.C. Saturday morning.
"Beautiful morning in DC! So proud 2 be a part of the #GlobalRace & an Ambassador for @KomenfortheCure. I'm here in memory of my friend Kristen Martinez :),” the actress tweeted before hitting the pavement.
Union completed the 3.1-mile course in 41 minutes and uploaded a TwitPic of herself at the finish line. In addition to her work with Susan G. Komen, Union is also an ambassador for Neutrogena's Choose Skin Health campaign, which seeks to raise sun protection awareness and reduce skin cancer diagnoses.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure is a global organization that raises funds for education and research for breast cancer. To date, the organization has raised over $1.9 billion for breast cancer initiatives since its inception in 1982.
