"It's really been a long time since I've been on stage," said Jason Derulo.
Mark your calendars for a comeback. Jason Derulo (pictured with girlfriend Jordin Sparks) is set to make his return to the stage on American Idol on May 22, reports Billboard. The pop star, who fractured his neck in January while rehearsing acrobatics for his tour, will perform an original song.
Derulo and Coca-Cola are giving fans the chance to get involved in the songwriting process. Together they're launching "Perfect Harmony," a competition that gives fans the opportunity to write lyrics to Derulo's comeback song, "Undefeated."
"I have been in great spirits since the accident," said Derulo. "Everything happens for a reason. But I'm actually in the last weeks of the whole process, so I'm excited but also really anxious to get this thing off my neck. It's kind of like someone's choking me for 24 hours a day."
With that time off, he's already written half of the first verse and chorus. It's up to the fans to submit the remaining lyrics. Derulo will record the top three versions of the song and fans will select their favorite.
"It's really been a long time since I've been on stage," he said. "I literally haven't danced in months. I can't remember the last time I've had to stand this long of not being that active. It is nerve-racking. In a couple of days I'll be able to really start going and prepare. I'm gonna see my doctor in a few days to give me the OK."
