Celeb stylist Ted Gibson's tips on how to protect your hair from Old Man Winter.
With nary a split end or a dull strand in sight, it’s easy to believe Hollywood’s most glamorous, A-list ladies are immune to the drying effects of wintertime. But we now know their secret: they have stylist-to-the-stars Ted Gibson on speed dial.
Inside his NYC Flatiron District mecca, Ted Gibson Salon, he reveals that the secret to haute hair begins in the scalp.
“In the wintertime, the scalp is usually extremely dry, so I try to do cool water rinses,” explains Gibson, who regularly tames the tresses of Zoe Saldana, model Chanel Iman and Kelly Rowland. “Deep conditioning is crucial and scalp care will ensure that your hair stays healthy.”
Gibson also recommends easy remedies found inside your kitchen. “Use ingredients like avocado mixed with olive oil,” he tips. “Mayonnaise can also do the trick for a great mask. Even toss in a little vinegar inside your favorite shampoo to lift limp hair and remove buildup.”
Color often? Be sure to scale back on the glossing treatments. “That can be very drying,” he says.
