During her office visit to Shape, the lovebird said she’s put on a little “happy weight” — 11 pounds worth, but you wouldn’t know it.

First on the singer’s list of healthy living tips: Watch the salt. “I’ve been more conscious of my salt intake, sugar intake, and making sure I’m not eating as many processed foods.” To add to that, she’s dodging all fried foods as well. She says, “…so I love to deep fry, but I’ve learned to alternate between baking and grilling. So just moderation has helped me to find the balance.”
Any true health guru knows the importance of drinking as much water as possible in the course of a day. Monica knows how difficult that can be, but admits it’s a must. “I have to press myself to drink a lot of water. My husband has taught me a lot about how important it is… For me it’s hard to get down a gallon a day, but I try. I watch him get down two, so I always push myself to try to get down one gallon.”

Finding that key tune to work out to is also important to Monica. She says you need something to take you away and make you feel “empowered.” Of course you need fruit and veggies. Monica says her two favorite are cherries and pickles. “I don’t know why I love cherries and I love pickles. I eat about two or three Claussen pickles a day. Those are just things I snack on.” (Note: Pickles are high in sodium!)
Lastly, Monica says to make fitness fun is key especially when you have kids like she does.
