If Johnson clinches the bid, he will become the first-ever African-American owner of a Major League Baseball franchise. This would be a second milestone in Black history relating to the Dodgers — iconic baseball star Jackie Robinson was the first Black player to join the MLB when he became a Dodger in 1947.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to be part of the Dodgers legacy & bring a World Series championship back to L.A.,” Johnson tweeted yesterday.

Johnson is said to be a prime contender for the role given his solid background in sports ownership in Los Angeles. Johnson had a minority ownership stake in the L.A. Lakers until he sold it in October 2010. He also is one of the owners of Anschutz Entertainment Group that is working to bring an NFL team to downtown L.A.
A first-round of bidding for the Dodgers purchase is scheduled for late January.
We’re crossing our fingers that things work out for Magic in this historic deal!
