Celebrities Get Physical
Keke Palmer
Keke gets in a trapeze workout. This weekend she hosts Nickelodeon’s Worldwide Day of Play in Washington DC on September 24th.
Halle Berry
Halle Berry’s body is the envy of most women. The Oscar-winner says she puts in an hour’s workout five days a week. Berry and her trainer switch up their workouts each week — from hiking to kickboxing or yoga.
Jennifer Hudson
The poster girl for healthy weight-loss, J-Hud has gone from a size 16 to a 6 — thanks to Weight Watchers and working out with a trainer. And she’s as surprised as anyone to have lost so much weight. “I go into the store and they try to put me in 4s and 6s and I’m like, ‘Who are you trying to talk to?'”she told PEOPLE. Keep it up J-Hud!
Michelle Obama
When it comes to staying healthy, First Lady Michelle Obama is super disciplined. She wakes up at 4:30am daily to put in an hour’s workout in the White House gym. She also practices what she preaches by eating healthy as she encourages everyone with her “Let’s Move!” campaign. “I want my girls to see a mother who takes care of herself, even if that means I have to get up at 4:30 so I can do a workout,” she told Oprah.
Mariah Carey
The new mom stays trim with regular exercise with her celebrity trainer, and walking her pups. “Jogging puppystyle!” she recently tweeted.
Nicole Murphy
This fab mommy of five stays physical with regular gym workouts.
Mel B
Mel B. is so into staying fit that she even has a fitness DVD and Playstation game. The mom of two says she works out three times a week, but doesn’t believe in dieting. “I believe in listening to your body and being consistent,” she said. “If you want a burger, have one, but balance it out the next day by eating salmon and vegetables.”
Ciara
Luckily, Ciara already loves dancing, which means she gets to burn calories doing something she enjoys. The pop songstress works out six times a week with a trainer and says she prefers to eat eight small meals rather than the traditional three. She also drinks water, lots of it. “When I’m training, I drink a gallon a day,” she told Women’s Health.
Nicole Richie
Richie is regularly snapped coming from the gym. The newly married star maintains her weight by regularly working out and eating plenty of fresh fruit.
Serena Williams
Despite having one of the most physically challenging careers around, Serena Williams still finds time to add an extra non-tennis related workout. The Wimbledon champ says she loves Bikram yoga. “I love Bikram yoga because you burn more than 600 calories in just one class,” she told ESPN Magazine. “You need a lot of patience for yoga, but I love Bikram yoga because it’s in a super warm room, so from the moment you walk in you’re just pouring sweat.”
LaLa Vazquez
LaLa lost 15 pounds to squeeze into a Vera Wang gown for her wedding to Carmelo Anthony in 2010 by signing up with Kim Kardashian and Ciara’s personal trainer, Gunnar Peterson. The renowned celeb trainer helped Vazquez shed the pounds by focusing on weight training and rigorous cardio exercises. Months after her wedding, Vazquez can still be spotted hitting the gym. Keep it up LaLa!
Laila Ali
Former boxing heavyweight Laila Ali says she works out five days a week and tries to do fat-burning exercise. “Because I am an athlete, this is what it takes to get my body to respond and see results,” she said.
Beyonce
It takes a lot of work to look like Beyonce. In an interview, the hardest working woman in showbiz said she does circuit training and runs for two-and-half miles every morning. And she goes to great lengths to maintain her ideal weight. “Usually when I get 5 to 8 lbs. heavier than my ideal weight, I’ll start eating healthily and make an effort to exercise more,” she says.
Queen Latifah
Naturally muscular, Queen Latifah stays fit thanks to working out with a personal trainer and trying her best to eat healthy. “My problem is I like to work hard and play hard,” she said. “I indulge with food and maybe some beverages that may not be the best.” But a little indulgence here and there never hurt, as long you don’t overdo it.
Sherri Shepherd
Sherri Shepherd challenged herself to lose weight in front of millions of viewers of “The View” in 2009. Thanks to completely changing her lifestyle and signing up with a trainer, Sherri lost an astounding 41 pounds in a matter of months. Nearly two years after she challenged herself, Sherri continues to work out with her trainer, Don Scott, who told ESSENCE that he helped her by integrating resistance training and cardio into her daily workout.
Alicia Keys
