Every day we feature the beloved "Strawberry Letter" franchise that is so popular on "The Steve Harvey Morning Show," heard nationwide. Send in your letters and Shirley Strawberry will dish out the necessary advice. Today's topic: Falling for a man outside my race Hello Shirley and Steve, I am a 26-year-old Haitian-American woman and I have not been in a significant relationship in six years. I spent that time completing my education and starting two businesses. The time has come to have my personal life coincide with my career so I went to God to bring me that man. Now, just to give you some background, I am a God-fearing, intellectual, sports-loving woman. By the way, did I mention, I am fine. This is not to be arrogant but I know my value. I have always considered myself to be compared to the ideal job -- benefits on day one, 401k, full insurance; the application process may be arduous but when you're in, you are not leaving. Well, two months ago, I met this man. He is not my type. He is very blue- collar, tattooed and Mexican. Now, I have dated outside of my race but this was not expected. I consider myself very open but this is way beyond me. I enjoy the simple lifestyle that he offers but the cultural differences are overwhelming. There are some other issues that come into play, such as he is a father, he has questionable credit, he comes with a past and we are opposite of each other in many ways. I enjoy his peaceful nature and the drama-free environment I now have. Being an adult, I know that I should not be concerned with what other people think but being Haitian, I operate on an approval system. I cannot bring someone all willy-nilly into my parents' home. All I know is I enjoy his company. Should I cut my losses and let it go? Or should I thank God for sending me a diamond in dollar store packaging and run with it? Please help.
