At Detroit’s McFarlane Elementary School, teachers are missing in action. Almost 60 children were sent home, on Monday, October 12, due to a lack of third and fourth grade teachers caused by a lay-off.
According to officials, after failed attempts to reach Detroit school district officials about the staffing shortage, Principal Carolyn Freeman cancelled classes. It’s a decision which has caused some controversy with parents and school officials. Students have since returned to classes and are being taught by substitute teachers.–NH
