President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama celebrated their 17th anniversary in style last night in Washington, D.C. It is there first wedding celebration since elected to the White House. It has been a tough week for the President after the Senate voted down his health care plan and Chicago lost its bid for the Olympics. The two dined at Blue Duck Tavern near the Georgetown area of the nation’s capital.–CJ
Lee Daniels’s “Precious,” the film adaptation of Sapphire’s novel “Push,” continues to draw buzz. Saturday night the movie premiered at New York Film Festival with some of the movie’s stars on hand to celebrate, including Paula Patton, Gabourey Sidibe, Mariah Carey, escorted by her husband, Nick Cannon, Mary J. Blige, Gayle King, Sherri Shepherd, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Lenny Kravitz and daughter Zoe, and Robert De Niro. Earlier this year the wrenching tale of abuse of a 16-year-old Harlem girl won three awards at Sundance. In September, producers of the film Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey attended the Toronto Film Festival, where Winfrey described the movie as “The Color Purple” of today.–CJ
