Pregnant Laos Prisoner Escapes Execution

Samantha Orobator, 20, a Laos prioner will escape execution because she five months pregnant, according to CNN.  She was arrested on August 5 on charges of drug trafficking and alleged to have been transporting just over half a kilogram of herioin, authorities say. The country's law requires the death penalty for those found guilty of carrying that amount of drugs. However, human rights group rallied around the expecting mother. She became pregnant while in jail, but her mother doubts it was by consent.—ZH

 

Pregnant Prisoner Facing Execution

Laos prisoner Samantha Orobator, 20, is pregnant and could face execution by a firing squad after being convicted of drug trafficking, according to CNN. The young woman is a British citizen and was arrested last August. She became pregnant while in jail, but her mother doubts it was by consent. Human rights groups around the world are rallying behind the case at the possible death of a pregnant woman by a government. Laos's last execution was in 1990.—CJ
