Designer b. michael brought the heat to Miami’s Rock Fashion event held at the newly renovated Fontainebleau Hotel on South Beach this past weekend. The energy at the New York-based designer’s show was upbeat and fueled by the fabulous fashions set to hit the catwalk. Backstage everyone was busy making preparations for the show. ESSENCE.com was greeted by b. michael, who was busily organizing the clothing and models. Lead hairstylist Joe of Red Dragon Salon decided to go with updos that gave a nod to the 1950’s, complementing the class and sophistication of b. michael’s collection. The inspiration for the makeup was vintage Hollywood glamour. The vibrant runway was packed with timeless, classic and retro pieces.
After the show, b. michael shared his motivation for presenting in Miami: “Given the environment and the doom and gloom in the world…a little sunshine and some new faces would be inspiration. I wanted each piece to be individual and stand out on its own.” The designer also dished that for fall 2010 he will be debuting a hot new hat collection.
Cicely Tyson, a muse of b. michael’s for many years, reveled in her surprise visit, saying, “the look on his face was priceless…b. michael just about fell off the runway,” she shared with a laugh.
Boris Kudjoe was also on the scene to view the show and host an event at the Fontainebleau. He commented that the pieces were “timeless, beautiful, nice colors and fabrics.”
