Nearly seven years ago, southern gent Ruben Studdard commanded the stage and was crowned 2003’s “American Idol,” and tonight the Velvet Teddy Bear returns to the stage where his dreams came true.
“I’m always excited to return to ‘American Idol’ because it’s like a reunion,” says Studdard, who has sold more than 50 million records worldwide. “I get to see all the people who had a hand in helping me make it and it’s always really fun, so they make it easy for me to return.”
Studdard will perform his latest single, “Together,” which was produced by the Grammy-winning duo Stargate for his romance-driven effort “Love Is…,” which also features productions by music legends Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. “I’m really excited to perform my new single. It’s just a song that talks about the different levels of relationships and how a couple can make it through anything,” says the Birmingham, Alabama, native. “I’m really all about my wife and stepdaughter, Khobi, who have helped me get through a lot of situations. I’m really blessed. I love the new music, and I hope that everyone is going to love it too.”
Check out Ruben Studdard live on “American Idol” TONIGHT on FOX, at 9 P.M. ET/PT
