It was a cold day in early February of 1999 when 22-year old Guinea immigrant Amadou Diallo was shot to death 41 times by four New York City police officers in front of his home in the Bronx. The shooting caused a bevy of controversy since Diallo was found unarmed and actually reaching for what was later revealed to be his wallet. On February 25, 2000, after two days of deliberations, a jury unanimously voted to acquit the officers of all charges. The case would force New York City’s finest to examine issues of police brutality and racial profiling.-WLW
