Stanley Robinson, 18, a Black student studying abroad in Russia for the last three months, was stabbed earlier this month in what police are determining might have been a racially motivated hate crime, according to the Associated Press. Robinson, who is from Providence, Rhode Island, is in grave but stable condition as he lay in a hospital in Volgograd, Russia, where in recent years a number of attacks have occurred on darker-skinned people. Robinson was studying Russian on a program arranged by the American Field Service or AFS. No one has been arrested in the case.
