According to Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), retail stores Saks Jandel and Saks Fifth Avenue are in competition to generate sales by getting socialites to purchase gowns for various upcoming inaugural balls. Saks Jandel, a reputable high-end specialty fashion store with a 128-year history, has hosted several pre-inaugural ball events.
“The month before Barack Obama’s victory, Marx (Peter Marx, Saks Jandel president) invited Los Angeles designer Kai Milla, wife of singer Stevie Wonder, to visit the store and show her inaugural ball gown collection,” confirms WDD.
Although D.C. and the rest of the world are buzzing with excitement for Inauguration Night, the Presidential Inauguration Committee will only host four official balls due to the current economic state of the country.
