In an ode to the new President, the students at one Long Island, New York-based elementary school have decided to rename the school after President-elect Barack Obama. The decision was announced last week at a school board meeting that effective immediately, the Ludlum Elementary School would be renamed the Barack Obama Elementary school, according to ABCNews.com.
The school is now planning a rededication ceremony following the inauguration in January.
Following in the same path, a south Florida street is being renamed as well for Obama. The city commission in Opa-locka, Florida, voted last week to change Perviz Avenue into Barack Obama Avenue on President’s Day next year, announces the Central Florida News.
Opa-locka is a predominantly African-American community north of downtown Miami.
