Presidential hopeful Barack Obama might have another challenge this election in order to get in the White House; finding a way to convince reluctant Black voters.
According to Yahoo! News, a New York Times poll taken this past July showed that 6 percent of Black respondents said they wouldn’t vote for a Black candidate. By contrast, just 5 percent of the White respondents said the same. Fast forward a few months and still some Blacks feel that if Obama wins the election, he will somehow be blamed for our current financial meltdown and other crises, which will then fall back on the Black community because of a racial double standard. There’s also the persistent fear among some Blacks that he will be assassinated. Yahoo! News also reported that polls have shown that a significant number of Blacks oppose welfare, back the death penalty and support initiatives banning affirmative action programs in public hiring.
