The economic state is leaving a damper on many Americans and now even some Jamaican-American residents are deciding it’s best to leave the States. The Jamaican Gleaner newspaper reported that a number of Jamaicans living in the United States have lost their homes after failing to make mortgage payments and losing savings from other investments. “It is a shame,” says Audrey Wilson, a Jamaican-American who has lived in Florida for the last 19 years “Oh God, It’s just sad and unbelievable.” Wilson, a mortgage/brokerage business owner, says she is hearing the stories and seeing the devastation first-hand. For some Jamaicans working in the U.S., the situation became even worse as many are among the 750,000 people who have lost their jobs since the start of the year.
